27-07-10 LEAGUE MATCH 18 .......

Tonight's matches saw the top two in both the Premier and First Division clashing. In the Premier Division Players Trent went into the match with a one point advantage over reigning champions Players Baize. As expected there was nothing to show between the sides as both home sides dominated the proceedings winning 6-3, giving a 9-9 overall score line, so nothing changes as we go into the final session of matches.

The top match in Division One saw leaders Wolstanton SC get beaten 11-7 by second placed Players Pool Club. This cuts the gap at the top to three points.

Also in the Premier Division Longton Zzz's beat Plaza 10-8 to move out of the relegation places. Plaza dropped two places after that defeat, as Green Baize A beat Crompos Pool Club 11-7 and Abbey Hulton beat 'bottom side' Locomotive 12-6, to both move up one spot.

The other results in Division One saw the bottom two Riley's and Pockets (formerly Joker) share the points after a 9-9 draw. And also sharing the points, Lambourne and Trent Tavern, after a 9-9 draw.

In Division Two it was 17 'on the bounce ' for Green Baize North and the title will surely be theirs by the end of August, this week a 11-7 win over Corner Pin for them. Longton Snooker A had a shock 10-8 defeat at the hands of the improving Ashwood. This allowed Nomads, 11-7 victors over Bulls Head , move to within three points of second place, with a game in hand. Green Baize B beat Longton WMC 11-7 to stay in fourth place.

Next weeks action sees the One frame Knockout take place at Players Pool Club.

20-07-10 DOUBLES MERITS AND DOUBLES PLATE RESULTS .......

All the results have been updated on the relevant pages. The main event saw 'favourites' from Players Baize Darren Lightfoot and Steve Bridgwood  come through 'unscaved' with 3-0 wins in both their games. Also through to the last four are their team mates Gaz Cummings and Andy Critchlow who edged out Gaz Harper and Andy Mullock 3-2. The 'Abbotts ' brothers from Green Baize North also booked their place in the last four after winning their opening match 3-1 and then defeating the 'Tills' in a 'family affair' 3-2.

In the plate event holders 'Bertie' Burton and Andy Maskery crashed out at the first hurdle losing to the Green Baize B pairing of 'Willet and Austin' . Premier sides will be represented through Longton Zzz's pairing Andy Blackhurst and Ian Byatt alongside team mates and 'favourites' for the title Gaz Copeland and Greg Walley. Also through from the Premier were Nick Shenton and Wes Jesney.

All the winners are on the relevant merits page.

Next week we return to league action with match 18 on the calendar.

13-07-10  LEAGUE MATCH SEVENTEEN REPORT ........

The Premier Division remains interesting both at the top and the bottom. Players Trent took full advantage at the top , winning their game in hand 14-4 against Plaza. This now puts them one point clear of Players Baize and they meet next week. At the bottom Locomotive earned a rare two points with a 10-8 win over Longton Zzz's, this coupled with the defeat of Talbot by Crompos Pool Club, makes it interesting reading. Crompos now have pulled clear of the relegation following their run of 5 points out of the last 6. Abbey Hulton eased past Green Baize A 13-5 to move within a point of third placed Plaza.

Division One saw Players Pool Club win their game in hand over leaders Wolstanton SC, beating Riley's 10-8 , but the gap still looks a healthy 5 points. Plaza Town dropped two places after defeat against Trent Tavern and Lambourne's victory over Longton Snooker B.

Division Two saw the top three all 'cruise' to victories Green Baize North 15-3 over Green Baize B, Longton Snooker A 12-6 over Corner Pin and Nomads also 12-6 victors over Longton WMC. In the divisions 'other' game Ashwood sneaked a 10-8 win over bottom side Bulls Head.

Next weeks action sees the last 16 of the Doubles merits and the last 32 of the doubles plate....

09-07-10  PLAYING STATS UPDATED......

All the match stats from matches 14 & 15 and the semis of the Super Sixes and Plate are available on the stats page.

06-07-10  LEAGUE MATCH 16  REPORT ......

Match Sixteen has come and gone , but has the title gone from the grasp of Players Baize. Once again their home side was trounced, this week by Plaza who ran out 7-2 winners and 11-7 overall. Players Trent edged out Locomotive 10-8, despite an away defeat and they now sit a point behind their 'neighbours' but with a game in hand, next week against Plaza ... Green Baize A continue to impress in their first season in the league, battering Longton Zzz's easily 12-6. Abbey Hulton got back to winning ways beating Talbot 13-5.

Division One seems to be a 'stroll in the park' for Wolstanton as they recorded another victory, this week 12-6 over Rileys. The win gives them a 7 point lead at the top of the table. Trent Tavern beat Joker 11-7 and Plaza Town remain in third after a 11-7 win over Longton Snooker B.

Division Two also seems a 'forgone conclusion' as Green Baize North made it 15 wins out of 15 , will they manage the whole season ???This weeks 'victims', were Nomads by 13-5. Longton Snooker A stay second beat Green Baize B 11-7 and Ashwood beat Corner Pin to leapfrog their opponents, with a 10-8 score line.

Next weeks action sees match 17 .......

05-07-10  ONE FRAME KNOCKOUT ......

The draw for rounds one and two are available with all start times on the ONE FRAME KO page. I will hopefully get the whole draw available by the end of the week.

There were 81 entries in the end, so we will be playing 17 first round matches, before the last 64, which is on a 'bar' chart.

For the past 3 years we've had a fantastic evening of pool, two of the winners from the past are playing Steve Finney from Abbey Hulton and Ryan Cope from Players Baize. Both players will be there or there about again this year.

Also in the 'reckoning' for the title could be former England under 21 captain Liam White, County stars John Clowes, Mark Copeland, Jimmy Croxton , Gaz Davies , Lee hammersley and Rob Harding.

Three players not mentioned above but in the quarter-finals of our merits, Gaz Copeland, Dave Breakwell and 'Cheesey' also will have a big shout in who wins the title this year. Players Trent will be represented by Andy Blurton, Pete Flanagan and Dave Jackson. Over 25 players are on view who play Interleague in Staffordshire

One player whose got no chance is George ..... Even the plate event ......

Should be a good night ....
